The South African Department of Labor and Employment has announced an increase in the national minimum wage from R28.79 to R30.23 per hour, effective 1 March 2026.

The Ministry stressed that this step comes within the framework of the government’s efforts to promote social justice and improve the standard of living of workers, in line with economic changes and the rising costs of living. The decision aims to support low-income groups and ensure the protection of the rights of workers in various sectors.

This amendment is expected to contribute to enhancing the purchasing power of workers and stimulating local economic activity, in addition to enhancing social stability. The Ministry also stressed the need for employers to adhere to the new decision, stressing that its implementation will be mandatory starting from the specified date.
