President Yoweri Museveni wins a seventh term in Uganda's elections

President Yoweri Museveni has won an overwhelming majority in the presidential elections, the head of Uganda's electoral commission said.

Official results on Saturday showed Uganda's current President Yoweri Museveni winning a seventh term, extending his four-decade rule.

The Electoral Commission announced that Museveni, 81, won 71.65% of the vote in Thursday's elections, amid reports of at least 10 deaths.

Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni won a seventh term, after elections marred by violence and internet outages.

Opposition leader Bobi Wine, 43, a former singer-turned-politician, who won 24.72% and said he was in hiding on Saturday after security forces raided his home.

The ruling National Resistance Movement party, led by Museveni, also achieved significant progress in the number of parliamentary seats, according to preliminary results. Votes are still being counted.
