The Minister of Defense of the Federal Government of Somalia, Ahmed Moalim Faqi, participated in the opening of the ninth edition of the Doha International Maritime Defense Exhibition and Conference (DIMDEX 2026), which was held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Emir of the State of Qatar.

Minister Faki was on an official working visit to Doha, where he is scheduled to sign a defense cooperation agreement between the Federal Government of Somalia and the State of Qatar, which aims to strengthen bilateral relations in the fields of military training, capacity building, and joint security cooperation.

DIMDEX, hosted by the Qatari Armed Forces, is a leading global platform for displaying the latest technologies and equipment in the fields of defense and maritime security and represents an opportunity to strengthen international partnerships and exchange experiences.

The Minister of Defense was accompanied on his visit by a high-level delegation that included the Commander of the Somali National Army, Major General Odwa Yusuf Rajah, the Commander of the Navy and Coast Guard, Brigadier General Abdul Wahab Abdullahi Omar, along with senior officials from the Ministry of Defense, the leadership of the National Army, and representatives of the Somali Embassy in Qatar.

Somalia's participation in this international event reflects its keenness to develop the capabilities of its armed forces and expand its network of defense and security relations in a way that enhances its stability and regional role.
