Joint statement
Nairobi April 21
Between the Sudan Liberation Movement/Army
And the United Popular Front
Based on national and historical responsibility, and out of concern for the unity of Sudan and the protection of the homeland and citizenship, the leadership of the Sudan Liberation Movement/Army and the leadership of the United Popular Front held in Nairobi a series of constructive meetings and consultations on crucial national issues, at the end of which the two parties reached a strategic consensus.
The two parties agreed to the following:
1. Joint work to build the broad national front as a unifying framework for all national forces that believe in change, with the aim of ending crises and building a state of true citizenship and justice.
2. Emphasizing the unity of Sudan, rejecting all forms of rift and division, and working to address the roots of the deep crisis and conflicts through comprehensive and just political solutions that promote stability.
3. Seeking to stop and end wars immediately through a comprehensive ceasefire, opening humanitarian paths, and entering into a serious political process that leads to lasting peace.
4. Building a unified national army with a purely national combat doctrine, far from partisanship and regionalism, whose loyalty is to the homeland and the people, and undertakes the task of protecting the constitution and the country’s sovereignty.
5 Work to develop a social economic program that works to rebuild state institutions, achieve sustainable development, and provide basic services to citizens in a way that enhances social justice and alleviates the suffering of the Sudanese people.
6. Separation of religion from the state in a way that ensures the neutrality of governance institutions towards all religions and beliefs, guarantees freedom of religion and human conscience, and establishes a state based on equal citizenship.
7. Strengthening cooperation and coordination between the two parties in various political and organizational fields, in a way that serves the objectives of this stage and achieves the aspirations of the Sudanese people.
8. Calling on the rest of the national forces to join this comprehensive national project, in order to achieve peace, stability and democratic transformation.
As the two parties announce this statement, they confirm their full commitment to joint work in the spirit of national responsibility, until the desired goals are achieved and the building of a new Sudan that accommodates everyone.
