On Sunday, Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki held talks with Sudanese Finance Minister Jibril Ibrahim and Information Minister Khaled Al-Aissar, in the rural area of Adi Halo, to discuss coordination on stabilizing the Red Sea and enhancing regional security.

According to the official Sudan News Agency, the meeting stressed the importance of continuing political coordination between the two countries to serve their common interests and enhance stability in the Horn of Africa region. The discussions included bilateral relations and ways to enhance cooperation across various sectors, in addition to exchanging views on regional and international developments.

Led by Afwerki, Eritrea seeks to strengthen its relations with the countries bordering the Red Sea, after his recent visits to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Egypt, at a time when neighboring Ethiopia seeks to secure maritime access. Afwerki pointed to his country’s commitment to historical relations with Sudan and supporting efforts to achieve security and stability, stressing the need for cooperation to confront common challenges.

For their part, the Sudanese delegation praised the facilities provided by Eritrea to Sudanese citizens residing or transiting through the country since the start of the conflict in April 2023, including fee exemptions and freedom of movement, and they blessed Afwerki’s political position in supporting Sudan’s unity and security.
