Ethiopia will join the Chinese-led multinational naval exercise hosted by South Africa within the framework of the BRICS group, the South African Ministry of National Defense announced today.

This participation comes at a time when Addis Ababa seeks to strengthen its military and diplomatic presence on the international scene, despite being a landlocked country, through closer cooperation with its partners in the BRICS group.

The maneuvers include the BRICS countries: Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, and Ethiopia's participation reflects the expansion of military and political alliances on the African continent, and the move carries strategic implications for the security of the Red Sea and Indian Ocean in light of increasing regional tensions.

This participation is also an indication of the restructuring of international alliances, as Ethiopia seeks to play a role in maritime navigation security and global military cooperation.
