Senegal succeeded in reaching the semi-finals of the African Cup of Nations for the third time in the last four editions, after its difficult victory over Mali with a clean goal in Tangier. With this victory, the “Lions of Teranga” awaits the winner of the upcoming confrontation between Egypt and Côte d’Ivoire to determine his opponent in the golden square.

  • Elimane Ndiaye scored the only goal of the match in the first half with a shot from close range, taking advantage of a mistake by Malian goalkeeper Djigui Diarra.
  • Mali's suffering increased after its captain Yves Bissouma was sent off after receiving a second yellow card in stoppage time of the first half, giving Senegal a clear advantage in the second half.
  • With this win, Senegal extended their unbeaten run in the tournament to 16 matches (11 wins, 5 draws).
  • No team has ever achieved a longer streak except Egypt, which holds the record of 24 consecutive matches without losing between 2004 and 2017.
