The International Organization for Migration announced that Yemen received about 22,000 migrants from the Horn of Africa in December, compared to 17,000 in November. The report indicated that 98% of the arrivals were Ethiopians and 2% Somalis, and that Djibouti represented the main crossing point for 80%, followed by Somalia 18% and then the Sultanate of Oman 2%.
Most of the migrants entered via Dhubab - Taiz, followed by Ahwar - Abyan, while Radum - Shabwa received those arriving from Somalia, and about 375 migrants entered from the Sultanate of Oman via Shehn - Al Mahra.
The report also recorded the departure of 2,034 Ethiopian migrants from Yemen, most of them to Obock-Djibouti, and the rest to the Sultanate of Oman. He stressed that economic crises and forced deportations prompted many to use Yemen as a crossing point towards the Gulf states, while others were forced to return or resort to temporary migration to improve their conditions.
