The Bank of Morocco announced the start of the final withdrawal of a number of old denominations of banknotes from circulation as of January 2026, as part of a plan to modernize the national monetary supply.

The bank explained that the decision comes in implementation of a decree issued on December 23, 2025, which aims to enhance the quality and safety of the currency in circulation, in addition to withdrawing papers that no longer meet modern standards.

The Bank of Morocco confirms that this step represents part of ongoing efforts to develop the monetary system and ensure dealers’ confidence in the national currency.
