Togo ended its term as Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Economic and Statistical Observatory for Sub-Saharan Africa on December 31, 2025, with Equatorial Guinea assuming the position in 2026.

Minister and Secretary General of the Council Presidency, Sandra Ablamba Johnson, presented a report on Togo’s presidency, in which she indicated that the period 2024-2025 witnessed remarkable progress, as its most notable achievements were the renewal of the institution’s financing mechanism, which ended in 2025, and the approval of the observatory’s vision and strategic priorities for the period 2026-2035.

Achievements also included training programs and progress in re-establishing national accounts, while the strategic framework was supported by a budget of 12 billion CFA francs to enhance the development of economic, social and environmental statistics in the 22 member states.

Togo confirmed that it had completed about 70% of the planned activities, despite the challenges related to securing resources from member states and development partners. In her capacity as outgoing President, she announced her readiness to continue supporting the Observatory during the handover process to Equatorial Guinea, which will assume the presidency of the Council for the period 2026-2027.

It is noteworthy that the Economic and Statistical Observatory for Sub-Saharan Africa, which was established to coordinate statistical efforts and mobilize resources to support national statistical systems, plays a pivotal role in enhancing the ability of member states to make decisions based on accurate and reliable data.
