The Ugandan Electoral Commission announced that current President Yoweri Museveni led in the presidential election results, obtaining 76.25% of the votes, equivalent to about 3.9 million votes, after counting the results of 45% of the polling stations.
According to preliminary data, the prominent opposition candidate, Bobi Wine, came in second place with a percentage of 19.85%, achieving nearly 1.3 million votes, at a time when the counting process continues and the results are announced successively from various parts of the country.
These results come amid a charged political atmosphere, as Uganda is witnessing intense competition between the authorities and the opposition, amid local and international demands to ensure transparency and integrity in the electoral process.
The Commission is expected to continue announcing partial results during the coming hours, with the final result being announced after the counting process is completed in all polling stations.
