The Nigerian government has affirmed its commitment to enhancing national security through closer cooperation between the Ministries of Defense and Interior.
In a meeting between the Minister of Defense, Lieutenant General Christopher Musa, and the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in Abuja, the two sides stressed that national security is based on three pillars: intelligence, internal security, and defence, with an emphasis on the need to avoid competition between security agencies, enhance border security, and protect national assets, as attacks on this infrastructure are classified as economic terrorism.
The two ministries agreed to deepen synergy in responding to security threats to internal and external borders, and committed to enhancing intelligence sharing, integrated data management, and activating an inter-ministerial technical committee, with the aim of enhancing national security and ensuring a safer Nigeria.
