The Kingdom of Morocco has begun strengthening its defense capabilities by completing the construction of the first drone factory in Benslimane, near Casablanca, under the supervision of the Israeli company BlueBird Aero Systems, in a step towards advanced defense manufacturing.
According to a special source for Maroc Hebdo magazine, the factory is expected to begin its official work next April, which puts Morocco on the cusp of a new phase in the field of defense industries at the regional level.
In preparation for the launch of the production line, BlueBird Aero Systems Ltd. received on November 12, 2025 a Moroccan technical team within the Technology Transfer (TOT) program, where the team underwent extensive training that included the manufacture of SPY-X aircraft, in addition to advanced practical applications that represent the first stage of launching the first local production line of this type in Morocco.
The company confirmed that this step reflects the confidence of the Moroccan side in its expertise and innovations in the field of drones and advanced defense technology, along with its commitment to continue providing the necessary technical and technical support.
The SPY-X project is a model of defense cooperation between Morocco and Israel since the resumption of diplomatic relations in 2020. It also represents the first program to produce drones within Moroccan territory using Israeli technologies within an integrated local production system.
The project embodies Morocco's ambitious strategy aimed at localizing defense industries and enhancing local capabilities by attracting advanced technology transfer programs, within the framework of military agreements signed since November 2021, which include the fields of aviation, electronic warfare, and smart defense systems.
BlueBird Aero Systems is one of the most prominent Israeli companies specialized in the production of short- and medium-range drones, as it exports its products to a number of countries within the NATO system.
It is expected that the SPY-X factory will form a base for developing advanced Moroccan capabilities in the production of multi-use drones, including surveillance, reconnaissance and defense missions, thus strengthening the Kingdom’s position among the developed countries in this strategic sector.
