Drone attacks on the city of El Obeid and its environs in central Sudan intensified as the devastating war approached the city, which is under the control of the Sudanese army. These attacks resulted in civilian deaths in at least two cases, according to residents’ testimonies.
Al-Obeid is one of the most important cities in Sudan and the capital of North Kordofan state within the broader Kordofan region, which constitutes a dividing area between the stronghold of the Rapid Support Forces in Darfur in the west and the eastern part of the country controlled by the Sudanese Armed Forces.
The Rapid Support Forces have recently resorted to intensifying the use of marches to carry out attacks in army areas and targeting important service objects with the intention of disabling them, such as electricity and water stations.
This escalation raises fears that the conflict will expand into the heart of Sudan, threatening more human losses and doubling the humanitarian crisis in the region.
