Alan Kasuga appointed Head of Uganda Government Information Centre

Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, Minister of Information Technology, Communications and National Guidance, Uganda, has announced the appointment of Alan Kasuga, a former BBC journalist, as Executive Director of the Government Media Centre, in accordance with directives issued by President Yoweri Museveni.

In a letter sent to General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Chief of Defense Staff, the Ugandan President explained that he received a letter dated November 27, 2025 related to the media center, indicating that he was not aware of the ongoing consultations or movements in this regard.

In his letter dated December 27, 2025, Museveni said that he had previously discussed with the relevant authorities weeks ago the idea of ​​appointing Alan Kasuga, adding that he had already directed the Minister of Information and Communications Technology to appoint him as executive director of the media center, with the names of other candidates to be considered later.

The President added that, in a copy of the same letter, he directs Dr. Chris Bariomunsi to begin the formal procedures for the appointment of Alan Kasuga along with the evaluation of other candidates for the position of Deputy Executive Director.

It was not possible to obtain a comment from the Minister of Information Technology, Communications and National Guidance at the time of publication

Alan Kasuga is scheduled to succeed In this position, Ofwono Opondo, who submitted his resignation in April 2025 after announcing his intention to enter politics in preparation for the general elections scheduled for 2026.

Opondo was later elected by acclamation as a Member of Parliament representing the Elders in the Eastern Province of Uganda

Alan Kasuga began his career in the media field during the 1990s by working at Sanyo FM before moving between television and radio within Uganda.

He also previously hosted the morning radio show The Big Breakfast on Kampala-based 91.3 Capital FM in partnership with Jackie Lumbasi and Ramesh Gapalsingh, in addition to presenting the Ugandan version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire since 2011.

Since 2012, Kasuga has resided in the British capital, London, where he presents a regular program on Newsday Channel

On January 15, 2016, Alan Kasuga co-moderated the first televised presidential debate in Uganda alongside journalist Nancy Kakungira from KTN.
