The executive branch of the Democratic Republic of the Congo intends to allocate a total investment of 41.8 billion Congolese francs, or approximately 19 million US dollars, spread over three years, to the Agro-Industrial Presidential Area of Nsili (DAIPN).
According to the document, and according to the government's tripartite public investment program for the period 2026-2028, seen by the Bankable platform, an amount of 26.89 billion Congolese francs will be allocated to the acquisition of special equipment aimed at relaunching agricultural activities, while the rest of the funding will be directed to the rehabilitation of the field’s pig breeding farm.
According to a statement attributed by several local media outlets to Nsili’s presidential agro-industrial workers, the farm has been idle since January 1, 2026, due to the lack of funding necessary to continue its activities.
A video clip attached to the statement shows empty poultry houses, in addition to a closed slaughterhouse. The workers explained that employees of the poultry sector, especially those working in hatcheries, slaughterhouses and chicken rearing, have been placed on leave without pay.
In the same statement, the workers called for the intervention of the President of the Republic, Felix Antoine Tshisekedi, in order to save this project.
In 2022, the site received a visit from the President of the Republic. The information available after that visit indicated that the production capacity was more than 18,000 laying hens, in addition to two large houses with a capacity of more than 9,000 broiler chickens, designated to supply the slaughterhouse with production every three weeks.
The Nesili Presidential Agro-Industrial Area was established in 1966 during the presidency of Field Marshal Mobutu, before being relaunched in 2013 in the framework of a public-private partnership with the Israeli group LR Group Limited. The project aimed to provide residents of Kinshasa and its suburbs with agricultural products, in addition to creating direct and indirect employment opportunities for local residents.
