The Nigerian Armed Forces announced the killing of a prominent leader of the Boko Haram terrorist group, called Abu Khalid, during a night military raid carried out in Borno State, northeast of the country.
The Armed Forces said in an official statement that “Abu Khaled” was considered one of the key figures within the organization, and held the position of deputy commander of logistics and operations in the group’s strongholds within the famous Sambisa Forest.
The statement added that the operation also resulted in the killing of ten Boko Haram members, without recording any casualties among the ranks of the Nigerian army.
The killing of Abu Khaled is seen as an important security achievement for the Nigerian Armed Forces, in light of the escalation in violence over the past months, as the army is waging simultaneous battles against extremist groups, led by Boko Haram and ISIS in West Africa (ISWAP), in addition to armed gangs involved in kidnappings for ransom.
This operation comes within the efforts of the Nigerian Army aimed at restoring security control in areas affected by armed rebellion, especially in the northeastern states.
