The Sudanese Armed Forces were able to break the siege that lasted for nearly two years on the city of Kadugli, the capital of South Kordofan State, in a remarkable field development that is considered an important shift in the course of military operations in the region.
This achievement comes shortly after the army succeeded in breaking the siege on the city of Dilling, the second largest city in the state, which reflects clear progress on the ground and a retreat of the siege forces, and confirms the restoration of the initiative on the ground in South Kordofan.
In this context, Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, Chairman of the Transitional Sovereignty Council and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, announced the opening of the road leading to the city of Kadugli, confirming the arrival of the armed forces to the city and the complete lifting of the siege on it.
Al-Burhan said, in a brief statement from inside the national television studios in Omdurman, addressing the Sudanese people:
“We say to the Sudanese, congratulations on opening the road to Kadugli, and congratulations to our people in Kadugli on the arrival of the armed forces to them.”
He added that the armed forces are continuing their military operations, stressing that they will reach anywhere in Sudan, indicating continued efforts to extend control and secure the areas affected by the conflict.
It is expected that lifting the siege on Kadugli and Dilling will contribute to alleviating the human suffering of citizens, and opening roads for the arrival of supplies, aid and basic services, amid a state of joy and welcome among the people, and hopes for life to gradually return to normal after a long period of stifling isolation.
